Learn How To Make a Beautiful Pendant from Polymer Clay

Image
Did you know that you can make gorgeous jewelry from polymer clay?  It's a fun craft that anyone of any age can do with the right materials. The pendants pictured above can be made using ivory colored Sculpey clay and wildflowers that are found outside. Simply use the natural flower to make the impression in the clay piece that's been molded by hand into a circle shape. Next, bake it in your kitchen oven following the directions on the Sculpey package.  Color in with Sharpie permanent markers and seal with Mod Podge after ink has dried. What about matching earrings to match? Something I love about this craft is that the possibilities are endless, the sky is the limit, and once you make one of these pendants, you just might get addicted to working with polymer clay. I saw this video on Youtube and just had to share it. Sculpey clay comes in a wide variety of colors.  For the pendant in the above video tutorial, you will need small amounts of black, navy, turquoise, and...

How To Paint Flowers on Rocks Using Black Background Method

Image
Picture of my Foxglove rock Painting on rocks can be done in any number of ways. One of my favorite methods for creating realistic looking flowers is to paint the background of the rock in black and using a stencil to apply the design in white paint over the black base paint after it dries. To employ this method, you simply use a wide brush ( foam brushes are probably best ) to apply the black paint on to the rock of your choice. Wait for the black paint to dry thoroughly about 1/2 an hour, and then take your flower stencil and lay it over the black background. Stencil the flowers in white acrylic paint.  It should look something like the picture below when you are finished with this step. This is a picture of my sunflower rock after stenciling the flowers in white paint onto the black background and before coloring it in with acrylic paint pens. Stenciling the design (flowers, fairies, animals, etc.) over the black background with white acylic paint, makes a nice foreground on ...

How To Paint a Stained Glass Themed Piece Using Sharpies

Image
Once again Sharpies are  the  go-to artistic product.  The ink is transparent and permanent and  creates a stunning effect on glass.  To make the stained glass plate in the picture above you will need: 1)   Glass plate -  If you'd like to make a stained glass plate like the one pictured above, you will place your picture face down onto the front of the plate so you can see your picture through to the backside and begin tracing.  You will be drawing onto the wrong side (back side of glass) so that the plate can be used to serve on. However, you may only want to use it for decoration and then it won't really matter what side you use to draw on. If you are going to make a candle holder , you will need a piece of glass that's open enough to  have a piece of paper inserted into it so you can draw your stained glass outline on the side that's facing out (more about where to get your images below). I like to buy my glass pieces at Dollar Tree, for ...

How To Make Beautiful Wooden Christmas Ornaments

Image
I love handmade Christmas ornaments and I love the feeling I get when I see a beautiful old-fashioned Christmas scene. So that's why I decided to make my own Christmas ornaments by transferring a beautiful scene onto a piece of wood using a simple decoupage method. Decoupage is simply the art of adhering paper cutouts to another surface with a sealant like Mod Podge  (Matte Finish or you can buy their version of a photo transfer medium which works really, really well!). You can very easily make beautiful handmade ornaments like the ones pictured above (follow the directions below). Transferring images can be a pretty tricky business and there are many ways to do it.  Below is a video explaining how to transfer an image using a mixture of simple white school glue and water: You can make beautiful ornaments to decorate your own tree or you can make personalized ornaments for family, friends and neighbors.
