Celtic Knot Rings... so much fun!

Image
This celtic knot ring is so beautiful, and with the tutorial given here is probably not that difficult to make if you follow the directions on it. I can not wait to try this project and will post the results once I have them. The meaning of the celtic knot is a spiritual one.  When we look at the celtic knot, we can see there is no beginning or end, which in my own particular frame of reference, means that we are the divine and infinite creations of God (you can substitute another word here based on your own beliefs). Wire jewelry is all the rage.  The rings in the tutorial below are fashionable, and really very simple to make.  I made about three of them in less than an hour!  Not bad if you need a fun gift to give a friend, or if you need a piece of jewelry in a flash to go with a new outfit.. This project is great for beginners.  Check it out below...  Just get creative, look for beads that sing to you, buy some wire and some wire tools and get going! ...

How I Started Painting on Rocks

Image
Do you remember painting on rocks as a child?  I do. My first painted rock looked similar to, but not exactly like the one pictured here... Back in the summer of 1972 in the mountains of upstate New York I painted my first rock on summer vacation with my best friends.  Their family owned 117 acres of land there and they took me with them quite often. We loved to spend the days exploring, climbing mountains, picking strawberries and playing in the creek. It was always fun, we had no place to go and all day to get there. My best friends happened to be sisters and only 13 months apart in their ages. My age was right in between so we were great friends (well, being sisters I guess they didn't always get along, but when it was the three of us together we had great fun, lol!) Their mom, Mrs. "P", was like my second mother. She was very creative and loved anything crafty, in addition to being an avid seamstress.  While upstate on one particular day she told us to go down to the...

The Art of Decoupage

Image
Decoupage has been around for centuries.  It may seem like a new craft,  but it actually dates back to twelfth century China and gained popularity  in Italy and France during the seventeenth century. With the supplies and graphics available today, it is easier than  ever to create beautiful items with the art of decoupage. Pretty decoupaged tray! Decoupage is the art of cutting out images and gluing them onto  another surface,  then sealing the item with a finish to enjoy for many years. I made the welcome plaque below using decoupage techniques that I have  outlined here on my webpage.  There you will also find specific instructions on how to print the images to cut out for the use in the art of decoupage. I used images from Dover Publications.  I love flowers and I bought a book of floral images from them.  However, they offer a wide variety of images you can use for decoupage arts and crafts, almost too many to pick from. Here is th...
